The Northwatch
24×36 – Oil on Linen
A black wolf stands motionless among winter aspens, alert to every sound and movement within the forest. Snow softens the landscape, but nothing about the wolf is passive. Its stillness is purposeful—a moment of complete awareness.
In the wild, survival often belongs not to the fastest animal, but to the most attentive.
The Northwatch explores that state of presence. The wolf is neither hunting nor fleeing. It simply stands within its world, reading the landscape with quiet certainty.
The contrast between the dark figure and the luminous winter forest creates a sense of mystery and solitude, while the surrounding aspens frame the animal like a guardian of the northern woods.
